The Passover lamb was to be the very best—without blemish or defect. On the tenth day of the month, it was to be bonded with and carefully watched for four days to make sure it met God’s requirements. God was saying to take the very best and slay it, so the consequences and hideousness of sin could be felt, seen and understood. When Jesus was put to death for our sin, God was offering His very best. Jesus never sinned. He was perfect. He was flawless. He was the final Passover Lamb whose sacrifice on the cross paid for our sin.
