Throughout the Bible, light contrasted with darkness is a reoccurring theme. Those who trust in God for salvation come to the light (living in God’s truth, goodness, and wisdom) and receive abundant life; those who love darkness (living in sin and apart from God) will face eternal separation from God in gloomy darkness. Despite people loving darkness rather than light, God made the way to rescue them from sin and its consequences. The Prophet Isaiah described a great light who would come into the land of deep darkness. The light is none other than Jesus the Messiah—the reason enough to celebrate Christmas.
