Even as the people were put off with the idea that belief, and not good deeds, was the real key to salvation, Jesus continues to teach them in hopes that their focus becomes less on material things and more on heavenly things. Jesus expands the analogy to say that His flesh is this Bread of Life. Instead of humbling themselves and wanting to know more, they’re offended. But Jesus invites them to “abide” in Him—a word used to describe entering into an intimate, personal, ongoing relationship with Him and the Father. “Feeding” on the Bread of Life is taking Christ into your life in the most complete, deep, and full sense. Have you fed on Christ?
